Bears 17, Panthers 3 – Jackson’s 2 defensive TDs lead Bears past Panthers 17-3
Rookie safety Eddie Jackson became the first NFL player to score multiple defensive touchdowns of 75 yards or more in a game, leading the Chicago Bears to a 17-3 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Jackson ran back a fumble recovery 75 yards on the game’s opening possession and returned an interception of Cam Newton 76 yards for a score early in the second quarter to give Chicago a 14-0 lead. He became the first Bears player since Fred Evans in 1948 _ and the first NFL player since Tennessee’s Zach Brown in 2012 _ with two defensive TDs in a game. Chicago also sacked Newton five times and intercepted him twice.
Jaguars 27, Colts 0 – Bortles, Jaguars’ D sacks Colts 27-0 to stay atop division
Blake Bortles threw for a season-high 330 yards and one touchdown, and T.J. Yeldon scored on a 58-yard run, leading the Jacksonville Jaguars past the Indianapolis Colts 27-0 on Sunday. By ending a four-game losing streak at Lucas Oil Stadium, the Jaguars remained atop the AFC South. Indy lost its second straight, both to division foes. Bortles and the offense looked good on a day when they played without rookie Leonard Fournette, the NFL’s second-leading rusher. Fournette was inactive because of a sprained right ankle. But the Jags’ stifling defense dominated again.

NFL – Timberlake to perform at Super Bowl halftime show
The NFL has confirmed that Justin Timberlake will headline the Super Bowl halftime show at Minneapolis next Feb. 4. This will be Timberlake’s third appearance on the Super Bowl halftime extravaganza, more than any individual entertainer.

Canucks 4, Red Wings 1 – Big second period lifts Canucks to 4-1 win over Detroit
Sven Baertschi scored twice, and the Vancouver Canucks used a dominant second period to pull away for a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night. Vancouver scored three times in the second, outshooting the Red Wings 18-6 in the period. Baertschi, Derek Dorsett and Jake Virtanen scored in the second for the Canucks, who are 3-1 so far on a five-game trip. Detroit has lost four in a row. Anthony Mantha scored the only goal for the Red Wings, tying it at 1 in the 1st.
NHL – Penguins get Sheahan from Red Wings, clearing cap space for Athanasiou
The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Riley Sheahan and a 2018 fifth-round draft pick from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for forward Scott Wilson and a 2018 third-round draft pick. The trade was announced before the Penguins played Tampa Bay on Saturday night. Detroit also sent defenseman Ryan Sproul to the New York Rangers for forward Matt Puempel. The 25-year-old Sheahan, whose contract expires at the end of this season, has no points in eight games this year. Sheahan has 38 goals and 60 assists in 292 career games with Detroit. He was the Red Wings’ first-round draft pick in 2010. Wilson, also 25, has 13 goals and 19 assists in 106 games, all with Pittsburgh. He’s pointless in three games this season. The 24-year-old Sproul has a goal and six assists in 28 career NHL games. This season, he had a goal and three assists in five games for Grand Rapids in the American Hockey League. Puempel, also 24, has 10 goals and five assists in 79 games with Ottawa and the Rangers. This season, he has a goal and two assists in five games for Hartford in the AHL. The Red Wings made the move to clear up salary cap space when they were able to resign hold out free agent Andreas Athanasiou.

NBA – Watson fired
The Phoenix Suns have fired head coach Earl Watson just three games into the season. Former Raptors head coach Jay Triano is replacing Watson on an interim basis after serving as his assistant. Watson went 33-85 in parts of three seasons with the team, including a 24-58 mark last year. The Suns’ 0-3 start prompted point guard Eric Bledsoe to tweet Sunday: “I Don’t wanna be here.”
NBA – NBA fines Kyrie Irving $25,000 for improper comments to fan
The NBA has fined Celtics guard Kyrie Irving $25,000 for responding to a fan with inappropriate language at halftime of Boston’s 102-92 win over the 76ers on Friday.
MLB – Dodgers set rotation
The Los Angeles Dodgers have set their rotation for the first three games of the World Series against the Houston Astros. Lefty Rich Hill will start Game 2 for L.A. after ace Clayton Kershaw pitches the opener against Astros ace Dallas Keuchel. Yu Darvish has the starting assignment for the third game. Justin Verlander will start Game 2 for Houston. The World Series begins Tuesday in Los Angeles.
NASCAR – Truex wins at Kansas after crew member dies
Martin Truex Jr. completed an emotional victory for his Furniture Row Racing team at Kansas Speedway following the death of a crew member the previous night. The season’s most dominant driver calmly overcame a restart violation and a loose tire early on to win for the seventh time this season. The race began hours after the team learned that crew member Jim Watson had died of a heart attack while in town for the playoff race. Kurt Busch finished second before a wave of playoff contenders headed by Ryan Blaney, whose car failed post-qualifying inspection. Chase Elliott was fourth and Denny Hamlin fifth to advance to the next playoff round. Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson also reached the Final 8. Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. were eliminated.

NCAA Football – Irish crack top 10
The top eight remain exactly the same in the latest Associated Press college football poll, with Notre Dame cracking the top 10 for the first time this season. The Irish climbed four spots to ninth with Saturday’s 49-14 rout of Southern Cal, which dropped to 21st. Alabama remains the unanimous No. 1 team, followed by Penn St., Georgia, TCU and Wisconsin. Ohio State checks in at No. 6, ahead of Clemson and Miami. Oklahoma is just behind Notre Dame at No. 10. Michigan has fallen out of the rankings for the first time in two years.
Golf – Champions – Langer takes playoff opener
Bernhard Langer made a 15-foot eagle putt on the par-5 18th hole to win the Dominion Energy Charity Classic by one stroke over Scott Verplank at Richmond, Va. Langer followed his second-round 63 with an even-par 70 to finish at 16 under in the first event in the PGA Tour Champions’ Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. Verplank shot a bogey-free 6-under 66 to erase a five-shot deficit, but he missed short birdie putts on 17 and 18.
