Residents of a South Haven area mobile home park are trying to figure out what to do now that they’ve received notice their rent is drastically going up in a few weeks. The rent at Meadowbrook Village will go from $300 a month to $1,000 a month on September 1. One man who lives there told WSJM News he’s trying to find another place to live.
“It just keeps you wondering where you’re going to go,” he said. “I’ve got a birthday coming up and I’m going to be 70 years old. I’m taking care of two grand kids.”
We also spoke with a woman who has been able to reach the park’s owner.
“They just said that he was within his right to raise the rent, and there’s really nothing we can do about it,” she said.
We reached out to a spokesperson for the mobile home park who told us Meadowbrook residents were told in person about six months ago of the upcoming increase. However, written notice did not go out until this month. The spokesperson told us the park is raising rent to pay for renovations, which include sewer and water system work. They also say they’re working with residents who need to move and deny this is being done to expand an adjacent camp.
