Lake Michigan College is celebrating the opening of its wine program’s new tasting room. The Lake Michigan Vintners Tasting Room is located in a store front on First Street in Baroda, and the ribbon cutting was held Friday. LMC President Dr. Trevor Kubatzke tells WSJM News it helps to better simulate the wine business for the students.

“The program is designed to teach out students the entire process,” Kubatzke said. “So, they plant the grapes, they pick the grapes, they crush the grapes, they make the wine, and they have to be at the end of the process where they sell the wine and hear from the customer.”

Kubatzke tells us that you’ll get to sample the wines made by LMC students at the new tasting room.

“Our students really are making some really good quality wines,” Kubatzke said. “There are some really good quality grapes in southwest Michigan, which is a unique climate to grow them, and I think anyone who comes to the tasting room will be impressed.”

Kubatzke tells us LMC is the only community college in the Midwest offering a wine program, and they’ve heard from wineries all over the region interested in learning more. The Lake Michigan Vintners Tasting Room in Baroda will be open Tuesdays through Sundays. You can find out more at www.LakeMichiganVintners.com.
