South Haven To Begin Water Street Improvements Next Week

Work gets started next week on a new stairway down the hill between Water and Eagle Streets in South Haven. South Haven Department of Public Works Director Bill Hunter tells WSJM News lots of people climb down the steep hill to get to the river, and the city decided it was time to help them out. The next phase will involve cleaning up the hill.

“Phase two of the project is the removal of the debris and the removal of the poor-quality trees and plants along the hillside,” Hunter said. “We’ll replace them with higher quality trees and plants so it should improve the aesthetics of the hillside.”

Nearby residents are being notified about the work now. It starts next week, and should take about a month. The project will cost about $134,000.
