You can now sign up for Berrien County’s new Smart 911 system. 911 Director Dave Agens tells WSJM News Smart 911 is an online system where you can enter information about yourself for first responders to know if they’re sent to help you.

“You can put photos of your family, even your pets and contact numbers, and that sort of thing that would help 911 with an emergency,” Agens said.

Agens tells us the county used to have something similar back in the 1980s, but had to give it up when they changed computer systems. This new Smart 911 system is actually nationwide, so if you sign up, responders can know important details about you wherever you go. To take part, go to Smart911.com.
