Coming up this Saturday is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year for the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan. It’s the annual Bids for Barks auction, set to be held at Pier 1000 in Benton Harbor. Humane Society Director Jill Svoboda tells WSJM News there will be music, food, and lots of fun.

“It really is more than a live and silent auction, and I believe this is going to be the best one yet,” Svoboda said.

Svoboda also expects this to be the biggest Bids for Barks yet because of the new venue. Last year, they raised just under $100,000. As for this year…

“Our goal is to always beat the year before, so we’re looking to meet or exceed the $100,000 mark,” Svoboda said.

Svoboda tells us the items up for grabs in the auction run the gamut from restaurant certificates to a hot tub to a trip to the Country Music Awards. All proceeds will go to the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan’s fund for a new shelter.
