Tick season is just about here in Michigan. Michigan State University entomologist Howard Russell tells Michigan News Network the last few years have been bad when it comes to tick bites.

“If that trend continues, we can expect deer ticks to spread pretty much throughout the southern part of the state,” Russell said.

Russell tells us a man in southeast Michigan got Lyme disease from a tick bite last year. That case was in Washtenaw County. Russell says a tick has to be removed within 48 hours of a bite in order to prevent Lyme disease.
