If you have some trouble paying your gas or electric bill this winter, there are places to turn for help. Consumers Energy this week announced it’s partnering with five west Michigan non-profits to make $12 million available for home energy assistance. Spokesperson Roger Morgenstern tells WSJM News they do it each year.

“What is great about this is we’re able to provide the funding earlier in the winter season,” Morgenstern said. “So, we typically do give additional money to non-profits, but this is one of the earlier times we’ve done it. We think the timing is good, and we’ll help more people.”

If you’re in trouble, call 211 to get in contact with the United Way, which will point you in the right direction. Most utility companies also offer payment plans, and anyone struggling with bills is advised to reach out to them before they get too far behind.
