The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed two influenza cases during the first official week of the flu season. Spokeswoman Angela Minicuci says both adults are in southeast Michigan and are the A-H-3 strain.
“We do know the flu can be fatal,” says Minicuci. “It isn’t uncommon in Michigan for us to see fatalities. We tend to see them more with children and younger adults, so now is a good time to get the flu vaccine so they can be protected later in the season.”
Last year, one flu-related pediatric death was reported in Michigan.
