Campaigning for his wife, former President Bill Clinton made stops Monday in Saginaw and Flint to spread the message of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“We can re-create a strong middle class and give poor people a chance to work their way into it,” said Clinton. “And we can do it in a country that is safer and more united, where every kid’s got a chance to go to college or get a decent job with proper training.”

He focused on his wife’s economic plan and never mentioned her Republican rival Donald Trump by name. Clinton encouraged people to get active in the race.

“I want you to go out there and tell people why you ought to vote for her, why it will change our lives for the better. We can have broadly-shared prosperity, we can have upward mobility, we can have a decent retirement.”

Bill and daughter Chelsea Clinton have both been in Michigan within the last two weeks — but Hillary Clinton has not made an appearance here in 53-days. The Michigan Republican Party responded to the visit, criticizing the Democratic nominee for not visiting the state herself.
