Volunteers for the Alliance for the Great Lakes will be hitting hundreds of beaches this Saturday as part of the group’s annual September Adopt a Beach cleanup. The alliance’s Jennifer Caddick tells WSJM News those volunteers make a big difference.

“Last year, we had over 6,600 participants on beaches at over 200 locations on the lakes, and they picked up over 16,000 pounds of debris,” Caddick said.

The volunteers also log their findings so the Alliance for the Great Lakes can add to its database as it works to prevent pollution of the lakes. Cleanup events are planned, mostly for Saturday morning, in several communities along Lake Michigan in Berrien County. You can find out where they are at GreatLakesADopt.org.
