The Upper Peninsula State Fair is underway in Escanaba. Sheila Krueger is the Associate Director of Delta County Chamber of Commerce, and says the theme is this is “Red, White and Blue.”
“We have a large region, but we do accept exhibits from all over the state,” Krueger said. “Because we are independent from the state, it’s just great comradery. All of the communities come together and really take ownership in believing that this is our fair, and everyone does what they can to make it continue year after year.”
This marks the sixth year the event is operating independently of state funding. All fifteen counties of the U.P. are represented. The fair, which began in 1928, runs through Sunday.
