State Senator John Proos is reminding Michigan taxpayers of one way they can support the Red Cross. He says a new law has allowed for a checkoff box on state income tax forms so residents can help out the organization.

“The American Red Cross is there in times of disaster, and we, too, can be there in times of need for them with the ability to support them by virtue of an income tax checkoff on your information,” Proos said.

The checkoff box allows a taxpayer to donate $5, $10, or more to the Red Cross from their refund. The new law also creates the American Red Cross Michigan Fund, which will receive donations from the checkoff for distribution to all Michigan chapters of the organization.
