1813 U.S. Captain James Lawrence ordered “Don’t give up the ship” after being mortally wounded in battle during the War of 1812.
1869 Inventor Thomas Edison was granted his first patent for an electrical vote recorder. Although the recorder was a failure and never used, Edison went on to invent many other famous devices including the light bulb, telegraph, phonograph, movie camera and mimeograph.
