Lake Michigan College is asking voters to support a renewal of its millage in the May elections. The LMC Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to seek a renewal of the 20 year millage. LMC Director of Community Relations Al Pscholka tells us the college has more than 75 accredited academic programs and is a good value for the community.

“Especially now with the labor market shortage, LMC is the source for training and retraining, and according to an independent study, LMC has a positive economic and social impact of $400 million per year,” Pscholka said.

Pscholka notes LMC is only seeking a renewal of its current millage, and this will not be an increase. He says approval will mean everyone’s tax rate for LMC will be locked in at its current rate for another 20 years. A millage rate is the number of dollars of tax assessed for each $1,000 of property value. A mill is one-thousandth of a dollar, or one-tenth of a cent. LMC’s renewal proposal is for 0.8804 of a mill.
