The owners of a popular St. Joseph business are hanging up the apron, and passing the spatula.

Wilfredo and Brandy Jaquez, owners of the scenic bed and breakfast South Cliff Inn on Lakeshore Drive, announced this week they have sold the property to Daniel and Allison Schultz, a Chicago-area couple making the move to St. Joseph.

Wilfredo and Brandy purchased the property about five years ago and have had great success, drawing guests from across the country and being featured in Good Morning America. They took to Facebook this week to say goodbye:

While we have loved this adventure, we have made the hard decision to hang up our aprons and pass the spatula to new owners. We are so happy that we found Daniel and Allison and their family to continue the legacy of this place. They are going to be wonderful hosts and we know you all will be in good hands.
We are humbled by all the memories made with you over the years. We have laughed together, shared secrets and even a few tears. We are so grateful for the experience and all your support through some crazy times. We will remain in the area and always happy to meet up for a drink.

Wilfredo and Brandy, who also own the popular Benton Township wedding venue Sunrise Farms, said they will continue to live in the area, and are not leaving the hospitality industry.

“It is surreal to realize your dream, achieve it and then choose to move on,” said Brandy Jaquez, in a Facebook post. “This was our first business venture together and we are so proud of what we accomplished. Wilfredo Jaquez put his whole heart into this and made it the best place. I am very proud of all his hard work and his natural skill as an innkeeper.
We won’t be leaving the hospitality industry but we did make this change to have some more time for our friends and family. The last couple of years have showed us how short life is and how we needed to make more time for those we love.
I will miss the guests, the stories and those sunsets but I cherish the memories made and the new adventures ahead!

According to Moody On The Market, Daniel and Allison Schultz have moved onto the property to manage the day to day operations, bringing their four children with them.

From the rural, stone cottage they stayed in on their honeymoon in Northern Illinois, to the bed and breakfast they stayed in during an anniversary trip to Ireland, they’ve long dreamed of the opportunity to create their own cozy environments for others to enjoy.

“Daniel and I are honored to step up to the helm and continue South Cliff Inn’s legacy,” said Allison Schultz, in a comment on the South Cliff Inn post. “Thank you for this amazing opportunity. Can’t wait to make new memories for our future guests and ourselves. We wield the spatula proudly!”

South Cliff Inn is a seven unit Bed & Breakfast with a huge perennial garden situated on the cliffs overlooking Lake Michigan with sweeping views and breathtaking sunsets, according to its website.

The new owners said they hope to reopen in time for the St. Joe Winter Beer Fest at the end of January. Bookings can be made at southcliffinnsj.com, by phone at (269) 983.4881, or by sending an email to southcliffinn@gmail.com.
