Berrien County 4-H announces 2022 outstanding youth members

Two Berrien County 4-H youth members have been recognized for their accomplishments at the annual Berrien County 4-H Member and Leader Recognition Banquet in Bridgman.

Kyle Smith of the Galien Chanters 4-H Club and the Fuzzy Friends 4-H Club, and Madeleine “Clare” Stockman of the Tryon 4-H Saddle Club were presented with the 2022 Leo Stanley Outstanding 4-H Member Award. The award is dedicated in honor of the late Leo Stanley, who was an outstanding citizen and community leader who dedicated his life to helping people help themselves.

Both members received a framed certificate, a watch and a check for $250 toward their continuing education from the Southwest Exchange Club of Michigan.

Kyle has been a member of 4-H for over 12 years. He has served as a club officer in both clubs holding the positions of reporter, secretary, treasurer, and vice president. In addition, he has been a recipient of numerous county and club awards such as project medals, all achievement awards and citizenship awards. His project involvement incudes baking, cake decorating, sewing, chickens, rabbits, horticulture, flowers, arts and crafts, animal science and llamas. He has grown as a leader throughout his 4-H career and is always willing to lend a helping hand to his fellow members and leaders. Kyle is the son of Ryan and Beth Smith of Stevensville. 

Madeleine has been a member for 14 years and is the recipient of numerous citizenship awards and county medals in the community service project and the horse and pony project. She has held the positions of vice president and president on her club officer team. Madeleine has been a member of the 4-H Horse Judging Team and has represented Berrien County 4-H at the State 4-H Horse Show placing as champion and reserve champion in her divisions. Throughout her 4-H career, she has shown a passion for helping her community and improving her equestrian skills. Madeleine is the daughter of Dan and Mary Stockman of St. Joseph.
