There are some new additions to Love Creek County Park in Berrien Center this winter. Berrien County Chief Naturalist Derek Pelc tells us they’ve expanded the snowshoe trails.
“We’ve been trying to utilize what we can for a snowshoe trail, so we were able to almost double it for this winter,” Pelc said. “It was historically about 0.8 miles, and now we’ve extended it to about a mile and a half.”
Pelc says the park has about five miles of ski trails and 3.5 miles of bike trails. They’re popular when there’s a good amount of snow on the ground. Pelc says Love Creek is considering being open on Tuesday due to all of the snow expected the next few days. The nature center isn’t usually open on Tuesdays. He notes the park has added a couple child-sized fat tire bikes this year. Call ahead if you’re looking to rent a bike.
