Kyra Harris Bolden has been appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court. In making the announcement, Governor Whitmer said she is excited about the legal expertise Bolden brings to the court on a wide range of issues. Bolden says she takes her commitment to this appointment seriously.

“Public service begins with an oath, a promise, a commitment; an oath to the people, a promise to selfishly serve, a commitment to the pursuit of justice.”

Bolden currently serves as a state Representative for Michigan’s 35th House District in the Detroit area, and has focused her work on criminal justice reform, largely crafting and passing bipartisan legislation to protect survivors of sexual violence. Bolden will be the first Black woman to serve on the high court.
