Another major bridge between St. Joseph and Benton Harbor is about to be under construction.

The Michigan Department of Transportation announced Friday that the I-94 Business Loop bridge over Morrison Channel and Industrial Avenue in St. Joseph will be undergoing $1.4 million in “repairs to critical structures” and other improvements starting Monday, Oct. 17.

This is the South span of the road, closest to the Berrien County Courthouse but not the Bicentennial Bridge, the drawbridge over the St. Joseph River, which was repaired a couple of years ago. MDOT says drivers should expect lane closures through December, with work resuming in the spring of 2023.

Work includes concrete deck patching, curb and fascia repairs, substructure and slope paving repairs, temporary supports, expansion joint repairs and gland replacement, pressure relief joints, and approach repairs.
