The 50th annual Four Flags Apple Festival is underway in Niles, with some crisp fall air to go along with crisp apples and fun around every corner.
Founded in 1972, the Apple Festival features carnival rides, games, food, craft vendors, a beard and mustache contest, nightly entertainment and of course – apples. A free apple will be given to all guests, and the festival has just about any apple product you can think of from pies to cider and everything in between. There is an apple pie eating competition, an apple seed popping contest, apple peeling contest. If it has to do with apples, it’s at the apple festival.
The annual five mile, two-hour grand parade through downtown Niles begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. For those who can’t make it to the parade, the City of Niles plans to live stream the parade via Facebook. The festival goes until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
