The South Haven City Council has tabled consideration of an amended ordinance for food trucks in the city. Questions were raised for how many trucks would be considered, where they could be located, and more. Dairy Queen owner Trevor Brooks wants to turn his parking lot into a food truck park.

“I fully respect the restaurants and the fear of the unknown. That’s a natural human response, but the reality is there is zero evidence food trucks hurt restaurants in any way,” says Brooks.

Kitchen 527 owner Eric Austin opposes the food truck ordinance amendment.

“I’ve heard some say it would be easier to get into restaurants at the busiest times of the year. It’s just not true. People come to this town, every year, they go to the same restaurants every year, and they wait two to three hours every year because they want to. They want to wait in line for that experience,” says Austin.

The planning commission and city staff will revisit the proposed amended ordinance and bring it back to the council later.
