Around two dozen layoffs have been confirmed at Spectrum Health Lakeland as Spectrum Health completes its merger with Beaumont Health. The layoffs announced this week are among leadership. In a statement, the hospital system says its health system is facing significant financial pressures from inflation, rising pharmaceutical and labor costs, COVID 19, the expiration of CARES Act funding, and reimbursement not proportional with expenses. However, it adds the merger with Beaumont will place it in a stronger position to face those challenges. Spectrum Health Lakeland continues, “Since the beginning of the year, we have recruited around 10,000 people, predominately into open roles directly serving our patients and health plan members. We have also made the difficult decision to eliminate about 400 management and non-patient/health plan member-facing roles from our 64,000 team members.” When combined, the new BHSH System has a total of 22 hospitals.
