Michigan State Police are taking active steps to make sure they’re prepared for any potential active shooter situations. 300 Michigan State Police troopers and other local officers are receiving active shooter refresher training out at the MSP Livonia Facility. Over the next few weeks, Lieutenant Mike Shaw says those law enforcement officers will run through various active shooter scenarios to prepare for the upcoming school year.

“There is a lot of talk out there if police did the right thing, and there’s a lot of social media with people wanting to critique everything that happens,” says Shaw. “This is just a reassurance for parents that we are prepared in Michigan, both with our local partners and our troopers.”

The Livonia facility is an old school purchased by MSP. Shaw says it’s the perfect place for very realistic training for the officers.
