Giants 4, Tigers 3 – Yastrzemski’s bat, glove help Giants hold off Tigers 4-3
Mike Yastrzemski hit a two-run single and made a beautiful catch in the outfield on Miguel Cabrera’s sharp liner, and the San Francisco Giants held off the Detroit Tigers 4-3. Giants lefty Carlos Rodón allowed one run and seven hits in six innings without a walk. Rodón has permitted just two runs over his last 27 innings. Yastrzemski’s leaping catch on the run in right field in the eighth robbed Cabrera of a likely extra-base hit

White Sox 11, Angels 4 – Robert leads 17-hit White Sox attack in 11-4 win over Halos
Josh Harrison and Luis Robert hit two-run homers during Chicago’s five-run fifth inning, and the White Sox pounded out 17 hits in an 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. José Abreu and Yoán Moncada had RBI doubles during a five-run seventh for the White Sox, who rallied from an early three-run deficit with multi-hit games from seven batters to win for only the second time in seven games. Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani hit back-to-back homers in the third inning for Los Angeles, which has lost five of eight. Johnny Cueto recovered from yielding three homers in a shaky third to pitch six innings for Chicago.

Reds 5, Cubs 3 – Luis Castillo strikes out 11 as Reds beat Cubs 5-3
Luis Castillo struck out 11 over six shutout innings in his first win in a month, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-3 victory over Keegan Thompson and the Chicago Cubs. Castillo allowed five hits and walked three while throwing a career-high 123 pitches. Jonathan India hit a three-run homer for Cincinnati in the opener of a three-game series between the worst teams in the not-very-good NL Central. Thompson was charged with four runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out eight and walked none.

MLB – Senators ask minor leaguers for information on MLB antitrust
The chairman and ranking minority member of the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to an advocacy group for minor leaguers asking questions about baseball’s antitrust exemption. Sen. Richard Durbin, an Illinois Democrat who chairs the committee, and Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican, sent the letter Tuesday to Harry Marino, executive director of Advocates for Minor Leaguers. The senators asked for information on “the impact of the antitrust exemption on the negotiation of players’ length of contract, wages, housing or other working conditions.”

NBA – AP source: Knicks dealing Alec Burks, Noel to Pistons
A person with knowledge of the details says the New York Knicks are trading Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks to the Detroit Pistons. The move frees up nearly $20 million more for free agency. Having already agreed to send Kemba Walker to the Pistons on draft night, the Knicks have shed nearly $30 million in salary for next season in advance of free agency opening Thursday night. The person confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade wasn’t official. It was first reported by ESPN, which said the Knicks would also send the Pistons two second-round picks and cash.

NCAAFB – ACC changing scheduling model for football in ’23 and beyond
The Atlantic Coast Conference is going forward with a plan to change its football scheduling model, with the biggest change being the elimination of divisions. The new plan, adopted by the league’s athletic directors and faculty athletic representatives on Tuesday, will be what the league calls a 3-5-5 model and goes into effect with the 2023 season. All 14 of the ACC’s football members will have three permanent scheduling partners and play those schools each year. They’ll face the other 10 schools once every two years; five one year, five the next.

NFL – AP sources: NFL insists on indefinite suspension for Watson
The NFL insisted on an indefinite suspension while Deshaun Watson’s legal team argued there’s no basis for that punishment as both sides presented their cases in front of a retired judge in Delaware on Tuesday, two people in attendance told The Associated Press. The hearing will continue on Wednesday and Watson is scheduled to be there for the duration, according to the people who spoke on condition of anonymity because the hearing isn’t public. Former U.S. District Judge Sue Robinson, who was jointly appointed by the league and the NFL Players’ Association, will determine whether Watson violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy and whether to impose discipline.

The 33-year-old Charles was averaging 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 16 games with the Mercury before the sides settled on a contract divorce last weekend. She’s expected to make her debut with Seattle on Wednesday night against Las Vegas. Charles was the league MVP in 2012. She averaged a career-high 23.4 points last season with Washington. She had signed with Phoenix in February.
