South Haven Area Fugitive Caught

Police have caught a fugitive wanted out of South Haven. The South Haven Police Department says 33-year-old Benjamin William Ewart was wanted on felony warrants and a person protection order violation after an incident earlier this month. He as found in Allegan County this week and placed in the Allegan County Jail. He’ll be transported to South Haven to face the charges there.

Police in South Haven are looking for a man who they say made threats of assault while possibly armed with a gun on Tuesday. The South Haven Police Department says officers were called to the 16,000 block of 77th Street in South Haven Township and attempted to make contact with 33-year-old Benjamin William Ewart, but he refused to follow their commands and ran into his home. A neighbor later said he saw Ewart running through a property next door and toward the beach. Police later searched the home, but have not found Ewart. The department says warrants for felony assault and resisting and obstructing police have now been issued for him. Additional warrants were also approved for prior incidents, including a separate assault and larceny. Anyone with information on Ewart’s location is asked to contact the South Haven Police Department.
