Saying no officer is above the law, Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom says Office Christopher Schurr will not stay on the department after the April 4 shooting death of Patrick Lyoya.

“This is going to be a difficult time for the police department,” Windstrom said. “We’ll get through it.”

Schurr is charged with second-degree murder and could face life in prison with the possibility of parole if convicted. Lyoya was shot in the back of the head while the officer was on top of him after a traffic stop.
