Gas prices were up again Wednesday by another four cents over Tuesday as Michigan continues to top the national average by about 26 cents. AAA reports the average Wednesday was $5.21 a gallon. State Representative Mari Manoogian says it’s time to act.

“I think the idea of a gas tax holiday is not something we should leave behind, Manoogian said. “I think it’s really important that we consider that option. It would probably drop gas prices maybe about 50 center a gallon, and I think for some people, that’s a huge deal.”

We were paying just $3.01 a gallon this time last year. Daniel Raimi with the Washington D.C. think tank Resources for the Future is also a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Michigan. He says the most important actor that could affect global market prices for oil in the short term is Saudi Arabia. He says it would make a difference if they increase production.
