It’s something you usually see in resort towns like Las Vegas and Cancun and it may soon be coming to Michigan. State lawmakers are considering a pair of bills to allow swim up bars at pools in the state’s hotels and tourist attractions. Frankenmuth Representative Frank Wakeman told Michigan News Network the swim up bars would fill a void in Michigan’s tourism industry that drives vacationers to other states. President Justin Winslow of the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association likes the idea.

“They’re very popular, and I think Michigan would be the 26th state to offer such a thing,” Winslow said. “It would help create some investment into the tourism side of Michigan and that’s what we need.”

Bavarian Inn manager Michael Zehnder says the bars in neighboring states like Ohio and Wisconsin gives them a competitive advantage. The bills would also allow food to be served in the pool.
