Indiana Michigan Power has announced plans to modernize the electric transmission system in Benton Harbor with an $11 million investment. I&M says the Benton Harbor – Riverside Transmission Improvements Project will involve rebuilding about three miles of transmission line, as well as the relocation of some transmission lines, around Benton Harbor. They’ll upgrade aging equipment, including towers and wooden power poles that have been in use since the 1930s. The project will also increase the capacity of the power system to modern standards. This will enable to system to meet growing demand. The plan calls for construction to begin early 2025 and finish by the spring of 2026. I&M representatives plan to communicate project updates with residents throughout the process.
