The Van Buren Conservation District is planning a Recycle Roundup event for next month. Recycling coordinator Kalli Marshall tells WSJM News they’ll be collecting household hazardous waste, paper for shredding, electronics, paint, and passenger and semi tires at the event. The conservation district holds a few recycling events each year.

“These opportunities are great, especially just to be able to keep these things from our landfills,” Marshall said. “They’re going to start depleting habitats, and it gets these items out of our landfills, keeps people from dumping them into a resident’s land. We used to see a lot more tires dumped in our area, and we’re also seeing a reduction in dump sites around our county.”

The collection will be held at Van Buren Community Mental Health facility on Hazen Street in Paw Paw on Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Marshall says those who bring items to be recycled should bring their ID or a tax bill to prove their residency in the county. The event limits each person to ten tires, and those who plan to bring tires are asked to register online. The recycling event will be free.
