Things have been busy at Berrien County Animal Control since it was split into two units. The Berrien County Board of Commissioners heard from County Administrator Brian Dissette Thursday Ashley Herr has settled in as the interim shelter manager and Sheriff Paul Bailey has had his hands full since the animal control officers were moved into his department.

“A big thank you to the sheriff,” Dissette said. “As the animal control officers have been pulled into the sheriff’s office, he’s had them go through a series of trainings to get them up to speed on his expectations. While those trainings were occurring, the sheriff has noted that he was the animal control officer, and just a big thanks to the sheriff for the amount of time that he’s personally invested in this transition.”

The county commission in April approved the changes at animal control. Dissette said he’s meeting this week with the Friends of Animal Control to learn about building upgrades the group is thinking about making at the shelter.
