Michigan State Police will hold an event in Niles this month to check child passenger safety seats to make sure they’re properly installed. Parents of small children who use the car seats can stop by and have technicians take a look at them to make sure the kids are buckled in correctly. Police will also be able to tell parents whether they’re using the right kind of seat. The event will be at the Niles Fire Department on East Main Street in Niles on May 20 from 12 to 4 p.m. State police say while it’s practical to bring your child along, it’s not required. Just have the safety seat with you. Those who can’t attend on May 20 can call the Michigan State Police post in Niles to schedule an appointment.
