The Benton Township Police Department says one person has suffered serious injuries during an armed robbery on Saturday:
On May 7th, 2022 officers were dispatched to the 200 block of E. Delaware around 1:30 p.m. for a report of gun shot victim. Upon arrival, officers located a 36 year old male suffering from a single gun shot wound to the right side of his head. The victim was transported to Spectrum Health Lakeland, and subsequently air lifted to Grand Rapids for further treatment. He is currently in serious condition.
The victim told officers that he was driving on Delaware and was flagged down by a tall, skinny, black male, who was asking for a ride. The male got into the car and immediately presented a gun and demanded the victim give over his phone. There was then a struggle over the gun, resulting in the victim being shot. A K-9 was dispatched to the scene, but it was unsuccessful in locating a suspect.
