Michigan State Police out of the Paw Paw post will hold a Stuff a Blue Goose style event at the Paw Paw Walmart on Saturday. The post’s Trooper Mabie tells WSJM News the event will close out this month’s Purses with a Purpose drive.
“What’s going to happen is there’s going to be a trooper outside one of those stores, and they’re going to have a Purses with a Purpose banner on their patrol car,” Mabie said. “There’ll be there available to answer questions about the event. What we’re hoping is that people will come up to the trooper, go about their shopping at Walmart, and pick up a few extra items that can be donated to the event.”
Mabie says state police have been collecting purses with personal hygiene items to donate to women’s shelters around the state. The effort started in Coldwater several years ago when troopers learned many shelters have a need for such items. Shoppers are encouraged to stop by the Paw Paw Walmart, pick up a few items, and then bring them over to the trooper parked outside. They’re also holding Purses with a Purpose events at the Walmarts in Battle Creek, Plainwell, and Three Rivers.
