May is Older Americans Month, and May 9 through May 13 has been identified as Senior Action Week in Michigan. Region Four Area Agency on Aging CEO Christine Vanlandingham tells WSJM News Senior Action Week and Older Michiganians Day on May 11 are designed to focus attention on public policy issues of importance to older adults, their families, and caregivers.

“Senior Action Week is an opportunity for older adults and caregivers and people who want to age well in Michigan to connect with legislators, policy makers, and decision makers to tell them how they want to age in Michigan, and really engage in a dialogue and inform policy makers about priorities that are important to older adults in Michigan,” Vanlandingham said.

Vanlandingham says anyone interested in taking part in Senior Action Week or attending a rally planned at the Michigan Capitol can contact the Area Agency on Aging. The theme of Older Americans Month this year is Age My Way. There will also be a senior expo May 5 at Lake Michigan College and a livestream May 11 with state lawmakers to talk issues important to seniors.
