Two years ago, a dam failure in Midland County created massive damage in the area. On Monday, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist visited the city of Sanford to assess progress and to discuss the “Building Michigan Together Plan” that has resulted in $200 million in state support for the region.

“These dollars being able to come here right now, at this point we think it’s going to help us keep on track  to deliver it,” Gilchrist said. “I’m not going to put a specific due date on that, but we are going to deliver those resources, the beauty and the opportunity that come associated with it. I know that we’re working with the federal government that’s going to continue to support this community as well”

Gilchrist said he was impressed with how far Sanford has come in its recovery so far, with activities taking place in the park, businesses re-opening, and new business making a home in the village. Gilchrist said the state will work with engineers and designers to make sure the infrastructure will support the community.
