The Michigan Department of Transportation has started a resurfacing project on US-12 in New Buffalo. Spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells WSJM News the work will take most of the summer.

“It’s 5.1 miles of US-12 from the state line up to Red Arrow Highway up in New Buffalo Township and New Buffalo proper,” Schirripa said. “It’s a $2.7 million investment, and that work will include milling and asphalt resurfacing, some joint and crack repairs, some railroad approach resurfacing, and new pavement markings.

Schirripa says the work will mean lane closures and some possible backups. Anyone driving through New Buffalo should give themselves an few extra minutes. The project should wrap up in August.
