The Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council has announced a new app to help visitors plan their visits to the area. Director Millicent Huminsky tells WSJM News the Visit SW MI App enables anyone to follow an itinerary by going to the website of the Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council and browsing the Visit Widget.

“As you’re going through the site and you’re looking at what you’re going to do when you come to vacation here, or if you’re looking at what there is to do if you live here, when you come across something very interesting that you’d like to do, you just put it on your itinerary and it stays with you forever,” Huminsky said. “It’s right on your phone.”

The Visit Widget is a blue map of Michigan with a star you can see at SWMichigan.org. You can browse attractions there and they wind up on your device.

“We’re also going to use it in the fall, the day after Labor Day, when we roll out the next Makers Trail Passport program, rather than publishing paper, we’re going to use the Visit Widget.”

Huminsky says the Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council has had the idea of a tourism app for a while, but COVID pushed it to go ahead and get to work. The app also considers events happening and tips users get from friends. Within the app, users can simply click “join” on an event or search for the restaurant they want to try by name. Both will be added to their personalized plan. The SW MI App is now up and available.
