The Michigan Senate held a hearing this week to allow for a free snowmobile weekend in the state, much like the already established free hunting weekends. State Representative John Roth of Grand Traverse County was in favor.

“If we could get more snowmobiles to actually go out and try the trails, maybe they’ll actually buy the pass,” Roth said. “So, I think it’s a great idea. We do it for everything else. Why not snowmobiling?”

Roth says this past year wasn’t the greatest in northern Michigan for snow but the snowmobile industry asked for the legislature to consider it. The Senate committee approved the initiative.
