The High Times Cannabis Cup is back. It’s the largest cannabis event in Michigan, and this year’s competition is expected to have the largest pool of judges and the most categories to vote on in the event’s history. Cannabis users will also have a chance to sample and vote for their favorite crop. Mark Kaz is the director of competitions and says winning is a big deal for cannabis producers.
“It’s a huge deal for brands to win first place as they typically will sell out of the product that won, they get a lot more distribution amongst dispensaries who want to carry the product,” says Kaz. “I’ve even had stories where people get better interest rates or better leasing rates on commercial cannabis space because the lender or the property owner knows that ‘Okay you’re a Cannabis Cup winner? You’re going to do good work, you’re gonna make good money, and you’re gonna pay your rent on time.’”
Judging kits will be sold at select dispensaries across the state starting April 16. Cannabis Cup winners will be announced on June 26th during an awards show.
