There’s a new candidate in the running for the 38th District in the Michigan House. Chikaming Township resident and realtor George Lucas announced his candidacy for the 38th on Friday. He’s running as a Republican and says he’s seeking the job so we “can realize the full potential of our community by creating an improved, vibrant and diversified economy in Southwestern Michigan.” The new 38th District was created by the Michigan Independent Redistricting Commission. It runs along the Lake Michigan coast all the way from New Buffalo to Saugatuck. Lucas is a past president of Chikaming Open Lands and the Southwestern Michigan Association of Realtors. He’s been a realtor in Berrien County for more than 20 years. He says his campaign will focus on “creating economic diversity, protecting Lake Michigan and agricultural land, improving the school system, protecting the unborn, and providing high-speed internet access for the entire community.”
