While the TSA installs some new high tech 3D scanners at South Bend International Airport this week, travelers are advised to arrive at the airport as early as possible. The airport says it’s expecting delays getting people screened due to the new technology being installed. SBN says you should arrive at least three hours ahead of your flight’s scheduled departure time through this weekend. New Computed Tomography checkpoint scanners provide 3D images TSA officers can manipulate to get a better view of a bag’s contents and often clear items without having to open the bag. The installation is expected to be finished Friday, and normal checkpoint operations should resume Saturday. SBN CEO Mike Daigle says people are used to there being no lines at the South Bend airport, and he wants to assure everyone the current delays are only temporary.
