The Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor’s Youth of the Year for Benton Harbor is 17-year-old Donovan Frazier. He’s a senior at Eau Claire High School and continues a long legacy of Benton Harbor teens to participate in the Youth of the Year program for Boys and Girls Club. The club’s Sherri Ulleg told WSJM News a bit about Donovan.

“One of the things that Donovan is really proud of is achieving his third degree blackbelt,” Ulleg said. “He’s one of the youngest in the nation to achieve that. He’s been working with Ready Taekwondo, and that was something he was introduced to through the Boys and Girls Club.”

Ulleg says the Boys and Girls Club considers several things when choosing its Youth of the Year.

“Character and leaadership development, living a healthy lifestyle, and academic success.”

Donovan has taken part in multiple Boys and Girls Club programs and is a 4.0 student. Now that he’s been named the Benton Harbor Youth of the Year, he will compete against the St. Joseph and South Haven Youths of the Year on February 24. The winner of that competition will go on to the state finals.
