Governor Whitmer spoke to the Detroit Chamber Monday about how important Detroit’s international border crossing is to Michigan’s economy. When speaking about the week-long closure of the Ambassador Bridge, Whitmer said she remains concerned about similar economic threats.

“We have to make sure that people understand if you’re going to do something illegal and create damage in the economy, we won’t let it stand, no matter what the cause or what the substance of the debate is,” Whitmer said. “If you’re going to unlawfully block international trade, it will not stand.”

Those comments came as the governor reviewed her $74 billion proposed budget plan with the chamber. She’s seeking boosts to education and road funding while asking for an end to the pension tax and new credits for electric vehicle purchases.
