Michigan lawmakers are working on the next state budget after hearing the governor’s proposals. State Representative Jack O’Malley of Lake Ann in Benzie County says she will not get all of what she wants.

“When I got in here, my first year, I think the budget was about $59 billion, and now it $74 billion. It’s the beginning of budget season, and much like Christmas, people have a wish list. I would say that’s what the governor has proposed. Her wish list.”

O’Malley says the governor will not get some of her wishes. She is seeking boosted funding for schools and infrastructure along with tax relief including an elimination of the pension tax. She’s also asking for tax credits for electric vehicles.
