The merger of Spectrum Health and Beaumont Health will be official as of Tuesday. The two announced an integration last year and held an announcement event Monday. Beaumont Health Board Chair Julie Fream will now be the board chair of what will temporarily be called BHSH System. She spoke at a press conference Monday.

“As we move forward as one new health system, we will have a greater ability to invest in the future of Michigan’s health,” Fream said.

Tina Freese Decker will be the president of BHSH System. She said the two healthcare systems together will be able to better serve patients.

“With the launch of our new health system, our aim is to provide greater value through exceptional care and coverage that is accessible, affordable, and equitable,” Decker said. “We are well positioned to transform health in our communities.”

The BHSH System board of directors includes seven members appointed from Beaumont Health and seven members appointed from Spectrum Health. Dr. Loren Hamel will remain president of the new BHSH Spectrum Health Lakeland, as well as a strategic advisor to BHSH System. Decker said there are no plans to consolidate any facilities in areas where the two systems don’t have overlap.
