Jets 3, Red Wings 0 – Connor Hellebuyck stops 33 shots, Jets beat Red Wings 3-0
Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves for his second shutout of the season and Andrew Copp scored twice in the Winnipeg Jets’ 3-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night. Kyle Connor added an empty-net goal in Winnipeg’s first game since a 7-1 loss in Colorado a week ago and just its fourth since Dec. 19. The Jets, who dressed six players on emergency recall, had seven postponements during that stretch. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 29 shots for Detroit. The Red Wings were shut out for the fifth time this season.

Blackhawks 3, Canadiens 2 – OT – Kurashev, Blackhawks sink NHL-worst Canadiens in OT
Philipp Kurashev scored 2:24 into overtime and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2. Montreal, a defending Stanley Cup finalist, has dropped five straight and is 1-9-3 in its past 13 games. The Canadiens are 7-24-5 overall and fell behind Arizona for the worst record in hockey when the Coyotes beat Toronto on Wednesday. Dominik Kubalik and Patrick Kane also scored for Chicago, which won its third in a row. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 27 shots. Jeff Petry and Mike Hoffman scored for Montreal, and Sam Montembeault stopped 28 shots.

NHL – Ovechkin, McDavid, Draisaitl headline NHL All-Star roster
Washington star Alexander Ovechkin and high-scoring Edmonton teammates Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl headline the rosters for the NHL All-Star Weekend announced Thursday. Selected for the eighth time, Ovechkin led voting in the Metropolitan Division to earn the captaincy for the Feb. 4-5 event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event features a three-game tournament played in a 3-on-3 format, with 11-man teams from each of the league’s four divisions. A player will be added to each team through Last Men In voting that ends Monday night.

NFL – Bears interview Kelly, Browns exec Adofo-Mensah for GM job
The Chicago Bears interviewed front-office executive Champ Kelly and Cleveland Browns vice president of football operations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah for their general manager job. Kelly has worked for the Bears the past seven years, as director of pro scouting from  2015 to 2016 and director of player personnel since 2017. He was with Denver from 2007 to 2014, rising from college scout to assistant coordinator of college and pro scouting. Kelly was a receiver and defensive back at Kentucky from 1998 to 2001. Adofo-Mensah comes with an analytics background over nine years in the NFL. He spent the past two seasons under Browns GM Andrew Berry after working in San Francisco’s research and development department from 2013 to 2019. Adofo-Mensah played basketball at Princeton.

NBA – Bol fails physical, trade between Pistons and Nuggets halted
A trade between Detroit and the Denver Nuggets was rescinded after big man Bol Bol didn’t receive medical clearance with the Pistons. The Nuggets had finalized a deal to send Bol to the Pistons in exchange for guard Rodney McGruder along with a 2022 second-round pick via Brooklyn. The 7-foot-2 Bol is the son of the late Manute Bol, who played 10 years in the NBA. Bol Bol saw action in 53 games over three seasons with the Nuggets and averaged 2.7 points. McGruder played in 17 games for the Pistons this season. He averaged 2.5 points and 1.6 rebounds.

NBA – Bulls expect Jones to miss 2-4 weeks with bruised knee
The Chicago Bulls expect forward Derrick Jones Jr. to miss two to four weeks because of a bone bruise in his right knee. Jones was injured in the opening minute of Wednesday’s 138-112 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. He twisted his knee when he pulled up near the Chicago basket and had to be helped to the back. Jones has started eight of the 31 games he has played and is averaging 6.3 points in his first season in Chicago. The Bulls lead the Eastern Conference at 27-12. They host Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

Naz Hillmon had 21 points, Leigha Brown scored 15 of her 17 points in the first half and No. 11 Michigan beat Penn State 74-57 for its sixth straight win in the series. The game featured two of the Big Ten’s four 20-point scorers as Hillmon entered averaging 20 points and Penn State’s Makenna Marisa 21.7. Hillmon was 7 of 14 from the field and 7 of 8 at the free-throw line, while Marisa was held to 16 points on 6-of-19 shooting. Hillmon made two free throws midway through the third quarter for a 20-point lead to put her into double figures for the 27th straight game. Maddie Nolan had 15 points and Emily Kiser added 13 for Michigan.

(20) Notre Dame 74, Wake Forest 64 – No. 20 Notre Dame women easily beat Wake Forest 74-64
Dara Mabrey scored a season-best 22 points, Olivia Miles added 15 points and 12 assists and No. 20 Notre Dame built a big lead early and cruised to a 74-64 victory over Wake Forest on Thursday night. Notre Dame (12-3, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) made nearly half its shots (27 of 56) while forcing 19 turnovers.  Jewel Spear scored 17  to lead Wake Forest (12-5, 2-4).  Notre Dame opened on a 16-2 run with the help of two Mabrey 3-pointers and built a 37-22 halftime lead. The Irish pushed the advantage to 26 points early in the fourth.
