The United Way of Southwest Michigan is taking applications for its Volunteer United Youth Scholarship Awards. Spokesperson Jennifer Tomshack tells WSJM News they’ll give out three scholarships, one for Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties each.

“We encourage any student who has a record of volunteerism to apply because you never know, every year the applicants are different, and if you’ve done any kind of volunteering in high school and you’re a high school senior,” Tomshack said. “There’s no harm in applying. It’s a really easy submission form, and you may end up with a $1,000 scholarship toward college

Tomshack says the United Way wants to encourage those young people who step forward to make a difference in their communities. The deadline to apply is February 28. You can find the nomination page right here.
