Members of Congress are remembering the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6 of last year. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell was on the House floor when it happened. She spoke with Michigan News Network this week.

“In those early moments, we had no idea that there were mobs attacking the Capitol, and when security came in and told us to sit on the ground, told us to take out our gas masks, then you suddenly realized there was something really serious happening,” Dingell said. “You heard the crowds, you heard the anger, you heard the pounding on the door.”

Dingell says she’s waiting for the January 6 commission report. She says former President Donald Trump abused the power he had, but says she believes in due process. The attack occurred when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol to disrupt the certification of President Biden’s electoral win.
